Fraser Island Holiday

Straight after the Brisbane show it was a race to get up to Maryborough to get ready for our long awaited Fraser fishing trip which included Rachel and I, Haylee (my daughter) and niece Leah. But then there were more coming along too, or should I say we were coming along with them. A great mate David and his Family, and Margy's (Davids wife) parents. So in all there were 6 adults and 6 kids. The preparation had ben going on for months with emails flying backwards and forwards, favourite fishing rigs and lures, ways of fetching water, even how many toilets to take.

Of course we couldn't take the Geist over to Fraser, an all sand island that bogs many a 4wd every year so we made arrangements with our Maryborough Geist dealer, Johnos Camper trailers to borrow a trailer in return of having our big XK 660 on their yard. So we loaded up the trailer with half of BI LO it seemed and headed to Gympie which was our meeting point. We left the trailer there and went into Brisbane airport to get the kids and returned ready to go early the next morning over to Fraser. All started well as we headed off in convoy, three vehicles travelling at 4:00am in the morning to the barge at Inskip point. All went well and before the sun got above the horizon we were on the island heading up to our camping spot above Waddy point. On the way we were all towing trailers and David became a bit stuck but no worries I snatched him out easily with the old Toyota Hilux (I keep this at Maryborough for rough 4wding, didn't think Volkswagen would appreciate me taking the Touareg, even though it would comfortably travel there) and we were on our way again. Fishing was the reason we were there (well it was for the guys) and fun was had by all, the Viking kayak preformed well in the surf and the kids had 2 weeks of huge fun jumping off the sand dunes, making forts in the sand, swimming, fishing and reading their favourite books.

State of Origin 3 was great to watch with Queensland coming through (as expected). This we watched rugged up in the cold at the Orchid Beach shop. Other than that no TV was had and ipods and electronic games were banned. Good wholesome fun for the kids.
