Hi all,
It has begun, the happy road to discover Australia's best assets, it's people and landscape. Rachel and I left Townsville committing totally to an 18 month journey to bring the Geist brand to all, Australia wide. We left a day late, November 25th but that's ok. We picked up Wayne's Ford Territory to take to Adelaide and are at Cruice Park at the moment at Woodford. Nice spot but still close to the road. A special hi to Derk and Marlene who we met today at Granite Creek. Hope the new van goes really well for you and we hope you enjoy Carmilla Beach and Balgal Beach on your drive north to Port Douglas. Hope to get just past Goondawindi tomorrow. In Adelaide by the 2nd of December and we take the fantastic Volkswagen Touareg by December 3. All for now, will post more soon.

Stopping about 45kms south of Goondawindi at a rest stop we found comfort traveling with Graham and Beth (inlaws) as the lonely and solitary outback country there can send an unwelcome shiver through your spine. We were more comfortable when many trucks used it as a stop over through the night. A centipede about 20cms long ruined the outback outside relaxation when it ran past our feet with a couple of our dogs chasing close behind. We set off the next day for our first caravan park for the trip, the Warren caravan park. We arrived at a reasonable hour and set about washing clothes and restocking water tanks etc... A BBQ in the evening and we had a reasonably early night for an early start the next day. At 5:00am we were woken by a mass of birds starting the day bright and CHIRPY!!! It was off again heading for the border this time stopping at McCullochs range rest stop where it was a lovely stop over except for the millions of black ants trying to take us on every step we took. We then went through to the border and on to Yunta where we had our first breakdown. A flat tyre on the car held us up about an hour and when arriving in Yunta (8kms down the road) I had a new tyre put on for $330 and settled in for a night at the rest stop in the middle of town. Other than a couple of trains running past the door it was a pretty good night there too. Our last day the short haul to Adelaide was relatively simple other than the very ordinary road closer to Gawler. When we arrived it was the long process of setting up for a two week stay in Adelaide. Now we can stop for just a little while and enjoy the city of Churches.
